On a street that was swarmed with people and cars sat a flower shop. Even from a distance, you can already smell the rich fragrance of a variety of flowers. The owner of the shop was always friendly, waving to everyone and wishing them a good day.
One day, she felt that she might need an assistance, so she put up a notice at the door of her shop. Three girls approached her for the slot. Being unable to choose from the three, she decided to let them have a trial of a week each at the flower shop.
The first girl had experience in working in a flower shop previously, so she was experienced in making bouquets. She was also able to coax every single customer that walked into her shop to walk out of the shop with a lovely flower in their hands. In that one week, she helped the shop owner to earn a great deal of money.
The second girl had just graduated from horticulture course and she was good in floriculture. Using her wide knowledge of flowers that could fill up a whole encyclopedia, she excels in also selling a lot of flowers. By the end of the week, she had earned slightly lesser than the first, but still a great amount of money.
The third girl did not have any experience at all. However, she had a heart of gold that warmed everyone's hearts. For every customer that entered, she puts on her brightest smile to serve them. Whenever she found a flower in the shop that didn't look too presentable for professional use and gifts, she could never bear to throw them away. Instead, she gave it to the students that passed by the shop everyday, which brightened up their moods. However, she didn't earn a lot as compared to the other two girls.
The shop owner decided she would hire the third girl.
Everyone who knew about it got really confused: Why did the girl who didn't earn much for the owner get hired?
The owner then said: "It is not the money that I care about. What I want is somebody who has a heart of gold, somebody who can brighten up everybody's day. I can earn a lot of money any time, but how often is it that I come across someone with an attitude that everyone likes, someone with a golden heart that cannot be bought anywhere? Money is not happiness, it's the thought and passion that counts."
